Aurora Police body camera footage of Vanessa Peoples excessive force welfare check

On July 13, 2017, Aurora Police Department officers entered Vanessa Peoples home after being called for a welfare check by Adams County Department of Human Services social workers. During an intense conversation, an officer grabbed Peoples by the neck, threw her to the floor and sat on top of her as he tied her hands and feet to a waistband. Police then carried her out the front door and put her face down in the back of a patrol car. Her shoulder was dislocated by the officer.

Peoples won a $100,000 settlement from the city of Aurora for the officers' excessive force.

The police department determined none of the officers violated policies, and the city did not admit wrongdoing.
