On Sunny Saturday morning in Aug, 2021, we went to Rockcliffe park, visited the pavilion and lookout along the Ottawa river, walked the trail, stopped by rookeries and strolled on the street of Acacia Ave and Hillcrest Road.

Rockcliffe Park opened in the late 1800s, and is one of the Capital Region’s first recreational parks.

The beautiful, old, heritage pavilion was built in 1918, which is a popular spot for outdoor weddings.

Rockcliffe Lookout offers a spectacular view of Gatineau River and Ottawa River. There is a pier below, and a boat restaurant. There are a lot of yachts parked at the pier.

Scattered throughout the Rockcliffe park are several architectural relics. These ruins include two impressive columns from Ottawa’s original Carnegie Library that was built in 1906 and Soper’s fountain, a piece of Parisian art that was purchased in 1912 by Warren Soper. Mr Soper was a pioneering entrepreneur in Ottawa who opened the city’s first telephone exchange and first electric street railway in 1891.

Rockcliffe Park has been declared as Heritage Conservation District. It is one of the most affluent neighbourhoods in Ottawa and is home to many ambassadors.

Tips of visiting
• Parking and admission are free.
• Great location for walking, cycling, picnic and photos.
