Reptiles of any species will take time and energy to maintain, to keep happy and to keep healthy. It doesn't matter if you're taking care of a Snake, Lizard, Turtle or something else, it takes time. But certain species of cold blooded creatures are very high maintenance and take tons of time to properly care for. Reticulated Pythons for example are massive animals that need not only space to move on the ground but climbing options and if cared for in a naturalistic enclosure setup also a water feature. These huge semi arboreal pythons eat a lot, poop a lot and this means big clean ups too! Dart frogs, although amphibians are also in this category. These tiny amphibians need very high humidity, tiny and often hard to find food and usually planted vivariums. Poison Dart Frogs are super cool to keep but can be a hard frog species to take care of for some people. Chameleons are the most obvious pick for High Maintenance pets because they are so fragile most of the time. Some species are easier than others but Panther Chameleons among other similar Chameleons have short life spans and take time and special attention. Aquatic turtles like Yellow Bellied Sliders, Mississippi Map Turtles and Red Eared Sliders are amazing to have and to watch in a large aquarium but they do take a lot of room and that space is usually filled with mostly water. Water changes take time and getting aquarium water parameters correct takes knowledge and patience. Lastly, the Caiman Lizard from South America although a stunning large lizard is more than a handful with the needed space that has a land area, branches to climb on and a large enough water area to swim in too. Amazing scales and color but these lizards are no joke and hard to care for!
