Federal health officials provide COVID-19 update as cases across country rise – November 12, 2021

In a virtual news conference, Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, and Dr. Howard Njoo, the deputy chief public health officer, provide an update on the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. They are joined by Dr. Supriya Sharma, chief medical adviser with Health Canada. Dr. Tam says an average of close to 2,500 new cases of COVID-19 were reported over the past 7 days across Canada, which is an 11 per cent increase compared to last week. The doctors face questions on the rise of cases, the timeline on a decision for approving a COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11 in Canada, the PCR testing requirement for travellers, and requests from provinces for Johnson & Johnson's single-shot Janssen vaccine.
