“Adornment” is a short film that intends to bring back the idea of adornment to the items we obtain. As we live in a society that over-consumes and participates in practices such as fast fashion, I want to interrupt this cycle by making beautiful, unique, and timeless creations. I hope to provoke the thought of owning items that make one feel like they never have before with my jewelry brand; NYTHSA. I aim to question the direction that consumer consumption habits are taking. Designing great quality jewelry that will withstand the test of time contradicts the fast-paced environment of fashion today. I aim to suggest that waiting for a well-designed and thought-out product that comes with a story and stems from passion is worth significantly more than a product quickly pumped out of a factory. With all of this in mind, I am focusing on the guiding principle of sustainability. Through imagery and symbols like shells and pearls, I want to guide the viewer through the sentimentality of using such materials and how they are more sustainable for the environment compared to materials like plastics. Moreover, by using lines to symbolize threading, I want to show the craft of the jewelry creation to demonstrate how handmade jewelry is often better quality, will last longer, and has a story and passion behind it. I tie all of these elements together by using soft piano audio as the soundtrack.
