York Regional Police Homicide Unit are seeking to identify a possible witness

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit are seeking to identify a possible witness and have set up a command post seeking information after an 85-year-old woman was located deceased following a fire at a residence in the Town of Georgina.

On Saturday, January 15, 2022, just after 5 a.m., York Region Paramedic Services and the Town of Georgina Fire and Emergency Services were called to a residence on Miami Drive for a report of a house on fire.

The fire was extinguished but sadly, the homeowner was located deceased inside the residence. The victim has been identified as Sandy GAUTHIER, 85, of Georgina. A post-mortem examination was conducted and the death was determined to be a homicide. The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.

Investigators have obtained video surveillance from the area and are looking to speak with an individual who was caught on camera walking in the area of the incident at approximately 2:40 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2022. This person may have information that could assist in the investigation.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area who have not yet spoken to police to please come forward. They are also asking anyone who has video surveillance or dash cam footage from the area or of the incident to contact investigators.
