19-year-old Staff Sgt. Richard G. Salsbury was assigned to the 345th Bombardment Squadron of the U.S. Army Air Forces. During Operation Tidal Wave, Salsbury’s B-24 Liberator was hit by enemy fire and crashed. His remains could not be identified, and were buried along with other unknown soldiers after the War.The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency has been using dental and anthropological data to get the heroes from Operation Tidal Wave home.
