Supercharger canopy & West Facility Construction! 18 December 2022 Giga Texas Update (09:30AM)

Gigafactory Texas on 18 December 2022! This is where Model Y’s are built and soon Cyber Truck production will start!

Rare Sunday flight due to rain forecasted all day tomorrow. Since I was in Austin covering Giga Texas, I took the opportunity to also visit and fly over the nearby Boring Co and SpaceX facilities, so look for that video as well!
Giga Texas was busy on this Sunday, with a lot of construction and Model Y’s being picked up by transport trucks, most likely due to the end of quarter push now underway!

Discussion of forecast weather and schedule for upcoming week: 0:06 to 0:57
Discuss drone flight areas of interest for this flight: 0:58 to 2:23
Discuss supercharger canopy installation possibility: 2:24 to 4:00
Drone flight footage & infographics: 4:05 to 24:17

In the video introduction, I discuss the forecasted weather for the coming week, including some heavy rain tomorrow and some brutally cold temperatures at the end of the week. I plan on flying on Wednesday, but not sure if Friday will be possible. Also, this is Christmas week, so stay tuned to possible changes to my normal schedule due to this as well.
I also discuss progress across the highway on the southwest construction and earthwork site, including on-going work to level the grade by removing hills and ponds, and the expansion of the Warehouse-on-Wheels (WOW) Yard to the revised south end of the material staging lot.
We look at progress at the west foundation near the battery cathode plant, including more deep trenching around the densely packed pier section, and footing construction has now grown into four district lines. The south perimeter trench is now across the width of the future foundation, and the drilling rig has been removed from the tall yellow crane and disassembled.
Finally, we discuss recent observations at the east supercharging installation that support the idea canopies will be installed over the new 32 supercharging station currently being assembled and having electrical systems connected.

Here are some other highlights from today's video:

West main entrance concrete removal 99% completed, trenching to reconfigure existing underground pipe work underway, and removal of the asphalt pad across the road and in the middle of the landscaped area has begun.

Widespread construction across the entire south end of the main building, with new trenching on the east side, more steel corrugated pipes delivered, concrete pipe segments extending under the south end of the main building and west splitter box (water management system) modifications. Also, the south end underground electrical conduit installation appears completed, new transformers installed, and preparations to remove the shorter power poles and lines is underway. All of this appears part of a massive project to extend the length of the main building.

Crews at electrical switchyard busy at the top of the “A-frames” preparing to install high tension wiring that will eventually be used to connect the switchyard to the existing nearby powerlines. Cable tray trenching is expanding on the south end, while the north end has had all the concrete poured, except for another section that needs to be trenched to extend westwards to the switchyard proper.
