Clark County Commission Chair Marilyn Kirkpatrick and Nevada State Sen. Chris Brooks talk about why people need to check the history of contractors before hiring for at home or any project. Brooks helped pass the new Senate Bill 303 that is intended to stop unskilled trades people from preying on victims. Brooks sited senior adults as the most vulnerable to solicitations for work by unlicensed contractors. The Nevada State Contractors Board recommends three steps: !) READY - Personally interview contractors, getting at least 3 bids and verify their contractors license; SET - Ask for at least 3 references and get a written contract; HIRE - Stay vigilant about tracking progress on the work being done, don't pay for work not completed, and never pay in cash. More information on smart steps when hiring a contractor can be found by visiting the Nevada State Contractors Board website at www.nscb.nv.gov.
